Community Bike Hub finds a new home at 608 Barkly St, West Footscray

After five years, hundreds of bike sales, thousands of services, and countless good times, the Community Bike Hub’s servicing and retail shop is moving from its Moreland Street site in Footscray to a new location at 608 Barkly Street in West Footscray.

“Just a peddle away” says Community Bike Hub Committee Chair, Andy Moutray-Read.

The Bike Hub’s trusty and beloved mechanics Michael, Gerry, Max and Dan will continue offering bike servicing and sales at the new location. The new Barkly Street shop will also offer an opportunity to further develop the social enterprise’s unique education program. A pop-up shop will offer bike servicing from Monday 24 June.

“There will be a new dedicated space for our education program. This will be in addition to our great workshop at Mills Close,” continues Andy.

The bike-loving neighbourhood of West Footscray is a natural fit for the Community Bike Hub, with existing bike paths nearby, and more local bike projects in the pipeline, the new location will introduce the unique work of the Bike Hub to new community members, while remaining accessible to its loyal regular customers.

“We love our community, and we’re excited to see new faces at the Bike Hub in the near future,” says Andy.

Since opening the Moreland St shop in 2019, the Community Bike Hub has saved thousands of bikes from landfill by recycling parts and refurbishing bikes for donation to asylum seekers, refugees and other under-resourced communities.

The Community Bike Hub’s Moreland Street has now closed and the new Barkly Street shop will open in July, 2024.
